New Ring Holders: Cacti & Mushrooms

So, the Mushroom Incense Burners are a hit, and they’ve inspired me to expand the whole “small plate” concept to include hand-built ring dishes. Turns out two of my favorite themes adapt to the design concept so well: mushrooms (obviously) and cacti.

The first Cacti Ring Dish. I love Saguaro Cacti so much. Plus, some aloe vera and a lovely succulent to boot.

I have noticed that these tiny plates are getting larger with every iteration. In my defense, jewelry dishes should be a bit bigger. Also, the porcelain shrinks a lot, and I am not interested in making things so delicate and tiny that they just break. These things have to be sturdy enough to ship!

I had President’s Day off work, so I spent several hours creating another Cactus design. This time, the cactus and its succulent friends are all a bit bigger.

I also busted out a couple mushroom designs, which I have been mulling over for a while. They’re inspired by some ring dishes I’ve come across made out of crystal formations. I figure that concept can be applied to mushroom fruiting bodies, too!

I’m feeling this one for sure. The next one is maybe not as functional as I think it will be, but I’m going to see it through anyway.

I’ll be taking these babies over to my dear friend’s house for firing this weekend. What colors should I use to glaze these guys?? Chime in on my Instagram.
