Ghost Luminary
Looking for the perfect addition to your Halloween decor? How about a handmade ghost luminary! Each one is a unique individual with their own personality, handmade with enthusiastic Halloween joy by yours truly.
Each ghostie starts out the same way, as 1 to 2 pounds of clay (porcelain, white stoneware, black stoneware or speckled stoneware), which is thrown as a hollow cone shape on the potter’s wheel, then given a distinctive ruffle at the bottom by hand. Lastly, the face is carved out and its name is revealed! The name and my signature, along with the year of production, is scribed on the inside and the ghost goes through its first round of baking in the kiln.
After the first bake, glaze is applied. White, black and speckled stoneware ghosties get a coat of white (shiny or matte), porcelain ghosts get clear glaze, and, optionally, red glaze either splattered (ala “Cheryl”) or dripped over the top (ala “Carrie”). Then, the final firing (to about 2200 degrees F), and your ghost is ready to be spooky over a candle! Electric is recommended, but they are hardy enough to handle an actual candle. Though, be aware: real flames will leave black residue on the inside. Handwashing is recommended when it’s necessary.
Production time on these guys will generally be four to six weeks, so order now and bypass the holiday rush! When you order, specify:
Clay Body: Porcelain, White Stoneware, Black Stoneware, Speckled Stoneware
Head Style: Rounded or Curled
Glaze: Clear, Shiny White, Matte White, Blood Splatter, or Blood Drip
